Develop a new UCIL unit
We are interested in unit proposals for high profile interdisciplinary units which reflect the challenges faced by the 21st century.
If you have an idea that will fit into our course catalogue, please consider the following as part of your proposal:
- Is the unit truly interdisciplinary, drawing on appropriate teaching and research expertise from across the University?
- Is the unit innovative in curriculum, assessment design and delivery?
- Is the unit set at an appropriate, yet challenging, level to make it accessible to undergraduates from any discipline?
In order to make units accessible to large numbers of students, we are particularly interested in developing units which are delivered online and via blended learning. However, we are open to considering any unit proposals which fit UCIL's vision.
Deadline for new unit proposals:
For units to be considered for delivery in the next academic year, initial unit proposals need to be submitted by 31 January of the previous academic year.
Head of School approval for the unit needs to complete by the Spring Teaching and Learning Panel.
Online unit proposals will depend on availability of UCIL staff.
From unit proposal to delivery
1. Initial Proposal and meet with UCIL
Complete an initial course unit proposal form and contact us to arrange a meeting with the Academic Director.
2. Couse Unit Specification Form
After speaking to UCIL, you will be invited to complete a course unit specification form. Please note, all units must be approved by the relevant Head/s of School or equivalent before the form is considered.
3. Approval from TLP
Appropriate units will be brought to Teaching and Learning Panel (TLP), feedback from Student Focus Groups and from the panel will be presented. Meaning you may need to be present to address feedback. Approval for the unit will occur at TLP.
4. Development of unit
Once the unit is approved, UCIL is on hand to help with content design, innovative assessment ideas, Canvas and promotion of the unit.
5. Unit is delivered
The unit will be advertised for the agreed semester/year by UCIL. You may wish to employ Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs). UCIL does not provide GTAs centrally, so it is the responsibility of the school/schools to recruit and train GTAs.
